Hi! This is Yoshiki from X Japan and this is my first… well… radio show and the first artist perform… cover of the Kiss actually I remember this… I was listening to classical album, classical music before. One day I went to get some another Beethoven album or whatever in record store I saw interesting album cover. It was I think Kiss “Love Gun” single. I did not know why, I just bought it. Then I came home and started to listen to it I thought “wow, this genre is interesting”. Since then I started listening to Led Zeppelin and others music.
I think I should play Love Gun from Kiss
Do you like Kiss?
I do
Yeah…
Actually then I asked my mother “if you can take me to the concert”. Then she kind of knew that I started listening to some hard-rock, heavy staff, I think I was 10 years old. So the Kiss came to Japan and anyway my mother is up taking me to the Kiss concert.
And she was wearing a kimono, we had my brother, he was 5 years old. So three of us went to Kiss concert. She was shocked. Yeah. Then right after the concert I think the teacher asked like “what do you wanna be when you grew up?” I said: “I wanna be a rock star”.
You were right
Well, the teacher said then “very realistically” and I said it again. He was very upset.
Well he must be ashamed now
Yeah, now I have my own radio-show in America. It’s fucking great.
Well the beginning let’s see when we are 14 years old so X Japan, used to call X, we are doing a lot of covers of Iron Maiden and this is one of the songs we did cover. X Japan I mean we started pretty early I mean the vocals Toshi and I met when we were at kindergarten, I think 4 years old, we made a band together I think when we were 10 years old.
Next song Iron Maiden “Run to the hills”
The next song Muse Apocalypse. It’s hard to pronounce some of the words. I’ve been running English quiet a long time. I just did some English lessons for this radio show because some of those words in English you can pronounce… I mean studying bands name and songs name, some of them articulate for us so weird.
So can you pronounce “apocalypse”?
I can say it with my French accent
Go for it
“ApocalYpse”
Yeah in Japan we say “apocalYpse” too, but my English teacher say I should pronounce “apOcalyose”. Am I saying it right?
Yeah so, I went to BCS Grammy and after that I went to after party and I went to another party and it happened to be in one of the members of Muse house. My friend introduced me to them. Actually they knew me. So they were very cool. Also I saw them I don’t know if I’m pronouncing it right in Wiltern They are from England and kind of like east persons… like you know… we are from Japan and trying to make it on this market and I think they are the completed us to going bigger and so I respect them. Also the song “Apocalypse” is one of the favourite songs.
The next song – Dir En Grey with “Zem”. Ok, so, I think some of you may know this band already. They’ve been touring intensively I mean throughout the world and they are great band. Actually I produced their first 5 singles, so my friend run their management company, they asked me about I don’t know 6-7-8 years ago or something, I brought them to LA. And even more songs. This is one of the songs I produced, at the time X Japan broke up so that kind of inspired me to going back to a stage and so I have to thank them as well.
You know Dir En Grey right?
Yes, I know them
Then the song actually they are singing in Japanese but you’re not gonna understand. Even when I was producing I asked: “is this Japanese or they’re just screaming?”“Well I think music has no boundary when it comes to screaming”.
Ok, the next one – X Japan. It’s Jade. This is gonna be our first single in the US. We were supposed to realize that back in march but earthquake… so we postponed. I don’t know how to describe this song. It starts very heavy and gets… well you gonna listen to it anyway…
This gonna be our first single and I think it’s a pretty good song describing X Japan’s… like… hard side and soft side as well.
The last song today – Roger Taylor “Foreign sand”. Roger Taylor is drummer from Queen. We actually… I wrote this song, he wrote the lyrics I don’t know how many years ago. It’s so good to work with the member of Queen
I actually I remember I went to his house in England. He had a huge house. Huge place. Anyway. When I came back to LA and we were talking about this song on the phone. Every time I called him somebody on the other side said: ”I know Roger is somewhere in property but I can't find him “, his house is that big.
I think the lyrics is talking about to unite all the races as a one. No black, no white, no yellow, no red. Just like one race the lyrics are amazing so I’m lucky to work with him and I wrote this song for this project so I’d like to play this song. Roger Taylor “Foreign sand”.
